SUMI - ZOME
Our “Kakishibu” and “Sumi” dyed linen pieces not only pay homage to traditional Japanese techniques but also offer a unique natural option for modern consumers. "Kakishibu" is used to dye utensils, tools, umbrellas, and fabrics to increase their preservation and durability. "Sumi" is used for dehumidification, deodorization, purification, and as a heat source.
"Kakishibu" and "Sumi" tells a story of heritage and the use nature, rooted in the history of people in Japan, and its seamless integration to daily lives.
At CONFECT, we have prepared a linen wear collection to showcase these two ethical dyed techniques.
KAKISHIBU - ZOME
Crushed green unripe persimmons from Nara are fermented and aged for over a year to create a brown natural dye. The tannins in the dye react with the sunlight during the dyeing and drying process to produce a deep brown color.
The fabric is made from 100% linen in a traditional British Glen check pattern. Inspired by coveralls, this jacket is simple and collarless.

The dye material is from the largest charcoal producer in Iwate Prefecture, using Mizunara and Konara charcoal wood. Finished with garment dye at a dye manufacturer in Okayama Japan.
