CONFECT’s collection is often characterized by using high-quality natural fabrics, especially linen, yet another hidden feature in our clothing comes from “garment dyeing”. While we typically dye the yarns or fabric before construction to achieve an even hue, more than half of our collection is garment dyed. Garment dyeing is a process where the garment is constructed before it is dyed. We use natural colors of the fabric or Kinari, unbleached color. The result is a distinct vintage look from softening of both color and texture, each with their subtle expression and is exemplified by each of their natural touch. However, there are drawbacks associated with garment dyeing natural materials such as linen. The traditional dyeing method has the disadvantage in linen, which is weak against friction, easy to tear. This is why it has become increasingly rare for brands to offer garment dyeing for a variety of natural materials. To solve this, we have been working with HANGLOOSE, a dyeing manufacturer in Okayama that takes on such challenges seriously and try innovative dyeing techniques.

CONFECT’s garment dyeing is a SLOW MADE process. The process begins with refining the clothes to make it easier to dye, which takes as much time as the dyeing process itself. In addition, the blending of dyes and trial dyeing are essential steps for the clothes made of natural materials, which often result in unexpected colors. A process that requires time and patience to achieve the best results. The art of garment dyeing is showcased with our carefully selected items from the categories of coat, pants, shirts, and cut and sewn, each with CONFECT’s well-defined styling.

Our coats delve on a sophisticated path when adjusting color for dyeing due to having a large amount of fabric and since they absorb a lot of dye. A byproduct of garment dyeing comes with accidental variations in color and rubbing that occur when fabric overlaps. We propose this value to our customers this season through our heavy ounce fabrics, found in or loose denim work trousers in stunning Dark Brown color.

From our essential linen shirts and UpcycleLino fabrics, we applied garment dyeing to create a relaxed feel to match the texture of the material. Even though the original stiffness is lost, the movements of the fabric around the collar and cuffs after dyeing becomes the unique feature of the shirt.

In addition to the traditional method of reactive dyeing, we also use different dyeing techniques to achieve a wider color expression. This season, we offer UpcycleLino Brushed Henley Neck Pullover Top in two colors: Ink Black, which is sulfur dye that allows you to enjoy a vintage-like fading effect, and Dark Purple, which features a unique uneven-dyed pattern that produces slight color variations unique to each individual item.

Embracing the concept of "SLOW MADE IN JAPAN," our product lifecycle takes on a captivating journey across Japan, harnessing the expertise of local regions in the country's textile industry. This includes the utilization of various techniques such as Omi-zarashi, a traditional fabric bleaching method from Shiga; Nigata's exceptional brushing techniques; Bishu's skilled wool weaving; Kyoto's intricate linen weaving; and the exquisite dyeing methods of Okayama, just to name a few.
