We continue our production by skillfully incorporating difficult-to-handle yarns and natural fibers, without being solely focused on production efficiency. The products introduced this time are new creations for the Fall/Winter 2024 season, made with a commitment to 100% natural materials based on wool.

One of these items is WholeGarment knitwear, produced using a seamless knitting technology. After completing the knitwear, a technique called “teasel raising” is used, which employs the natural teasel plant for raising the fabric's texture.

The teasel, which grows on the plant Dipsacus fullonum, has numerous small spines. These are attached to a machine, and the fabric is passed through a rotating raising machine, with artisans carefully controlling the process for each individual piece. The degree of raising is achieved through the artisan's skillful touch and expertise. At CONFECT, we intentionally avoid making the finish too uniform, instead aiming for a slightly uneven, random raised texture.

The fruit of the Fuller’s teasel plant is covered with numerous spines. These are set onto a machine, and as the fabric is passed through the rotating raising machine, artisans control the process for each piece with precision. The degree of raising is determined by the artisan’s skilled technique and sense of touch. We intentionally avoid making the finish overly uniform, aiming for a slightly uneven, random raised texture.

Koyaguchi, located at the foot of Mount Koya in Wakayama Prefecture, is renowned as a production area for pile knits and woven fabrics. Its history dates back to the Meiji era, and this region is said to have become the world’s only pile fabric production area, thanks to the development of a unique weaving technique called “SAIORI.” This special technique has been passed down and preserved by local craftsmen and technicians to this day.

At CONFECT, we have made a special request to Yamashita Pile Co., a manufacturer that knits Koyaguchi pile, to create fabrics using only natural materials. Typically, synthetic fibers are used for the foundation threads, which serve as the base fabric. However, considering that the fabric will come into direct contact with the skin, we place special orders using 100% cotton threads for this purpose.
