WORK WEAR Inspired by GARDENER
The character that emerged from the 2025 Spring/Summer season theme, "VERDANT GARDEN," is the plant hunter. This season, we have based our designs on the workwear of gardeners who make horticulture their livelihood.
Continuing from last year, we have used linen-washi fabric to create a vest and pants inspired by the workwear of gardeners.
In Japan, washi yarn has been used since the Nara period. The history of twisting washi, known as Shosen-Shi, which involves cutting washi paper into strips and spinning them into yarn, is said to be even older than hemp or cotton in Japan.
Washi yarn and washi fabrics are lightweight, highly absorbent, and quick-drying, making them well-suited for Japan’s hot and humid climate.
At CONFECT, we started using washi fabric blended with cotton and linen last season. This season, we have employed a high-density fabric with linen as the warp and washi yarn used independently as the weft.
With the image of a gardener who requires various tools in mind, we have designed a new vest with a slightly longer length and an oversized silhouette. It features three pockets, bold and distinctive stitching, and a cinch-back on the back, incorporating subtle yet thoughtful details while maintaining a simple design.
The mustard color we have prepared this time is naturally dyed using lacquer tree wood chips. The lacquer tree is primarily cultivated for harvesting its sap, which is used as lacquer coating. However, the dye for this garment is extracted from the finely crushed wood of trees that have already had their sap collected. This natural wood-derived dye produces a vibrant and deep mustard hue, characteristic of its organic origins.
